Soap Making Classes
Soap Making Classes are finished for the year - thank you to the 40 women who came out and made soap with me this year!
It's time to make soap again!
We're making my SavonLee Goat's Milk Soap (recipe is not included in the class manual). A vegan Aloe Vera version is also available.
Cost, per person, is $75 and includes 4 lbs of soap (20 bars). People also have the option to make 8 lbs of soap (40 bars) for $125. An information booklet with steps to set up your own soap making at home is included.
We will scent with 100% Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, and unscented is always an option as well. I will have Lavender, Sweet Orange, Tangerine, Mandarin, Lemongrass, Lime and Spearmint available, as well as a Christmas Spice essential oil blend, and a fresh, woodsy essential oil blend too.
I will cut the soap the next day and deliver with bags and labels you can use to package your soap when its ready. Delivery is within the Comox Valley; for people outside of the valley, we can make other arrangements.
The soap requires 4-6 weeks of drying and curing time. It's best done in a warm, dry space. After that, you can use and package the soap in any way you'd like :) The soap will be ready for Christmas and holiday gift giving.
People have asked whether it is hypoallergenic and about sensitive skin issues.
Homemade soap retains the glycerin, which is a natural by-product of the saponification (soap making) process. Commercial producers of soap extract the glycerin and sell it to the food and cosmetic industries. Commercially produced soaps are not true soaps and are actually more like a detergent. This is why so many people get dry skin and other skin issues from commercially produced soaps.
Commercial soaps are also often made with synthetic fragrances, which is another skin irritant.
We're making the soap the way your grandmother (or great great grandmother) made it. All of the glycerin is retrained in the soap. We add goat's milk (or aloe vera) and vitamin E for their moisturizing benefits and use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils to scent.
This is soap amazingness!
